Sharks tie up Viedensky with one-year deal

After a nearly three-month stint on the IR for a knee injury, center Marek Viedensky capped off his return to the ice by scoring a third-period goal for the San Francisco Bulls in a 3-1 victory last February against Bakersfield.

When it was time to talk to the press post-game, Viedensky emerged holding a pair of needle-nose pliers in his muscled hand, and jokingly proclaimed:

“Now, ask nice questions!”

To which the local media heads couldn’t help but laugh.

It was that type of light humor mixed with his beastly presence on the ice that made the forward a hit in San Francisco, even when he left the city after being called up to the Bulls’ AHL affiliate, the Worcester Sharks, in mid-March.

So, fans of the 22-year-old Slovakian will be happy to hear the former Bull is staying in the San Jose Sharks family after news came down from San Jose Friday that Viedensky was re-signed to a one-year contract with the Sharks.

Viedensky split his time between the ECHL and AHL last year. While in San Francisco he registered 19 points (8 goals, 11 assists) and 22 penalty minutes.

In 14 games with Worcester he recorded six points (four goals, two assists). He has played 66 career games with the AHL Sharks, recording 17 points (nine goals, eight assists,) and 18 penalty minutes.

The Sharks selected Viedensky in the seventh round of the 2009 NHL Draft.
