LAS VEGAS — On a night when the stars were out in Vegas, the Golden State Summer League team did not disappoint, beating the Sacramento Kings 80-66 Monday.
As Stephen Curry, Harrison Barnes, Marreese Speights and David Lee watched the game courtside, the Warriors gained a double-digit lead after the first quarter that they never lost.
Draymond Green led the Warriors to their second straight Summer League victory pouring in 18 points including 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.
Green said he is trying to lead the Summer League team and having the veteran players he hasn’t got to spend much time with this summer, on the sidelines, was a great addition:
“It’s always good to see those guys and good to see guys show support. We’re representing the organization and everyone wants to see us do good and represent the organization well.”
Kent Bazemore, who does not have a guaranteed contract for next season continued to prove that he deserves a spot on the Warriors roster. With another productive night in Las Vegas he added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Bazemore was also excited to see the Warriors star players come out and support the Summer League team:
“It’s always good to see your veteran guys come show support. But that’s just the type of team we are, we’re a very close knit group.”
The standout for the Kings wasn’t the expected 7th overall draft pick, Ben McLemore — who has struggled in his first two Summer League games — but instead was Sacramento’s second round draft pick, Ray McCallum.
McCallum finished the night with a game-high 23 points on just 7-of-10 shooting and managed six steals.
Even with the explosiveness of McCallum, the Kings were never able to catch up after the Warriors turned a 12-11 first quarter lead into a 41-27 lead by the half.
Bazemore said after the game that he wasn’t doing anything specifically different to get the win against Sacramento, and said if they played good defense and made good choices they would continue to win:
“It’s basketball at the end of the day, its very simple.”
The Warriors are back on the court Tuesday for their third Summer League game against the Milwaukee Bucks at 3:30 pm.
