Warriors sending some sizzle to Vegas

The Golden State Warriors are headed back to Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League.

But this year, things are different. Literally.

This summer, the NBA will debut a tournament-style schedule intent on crowning the first-ever NBA Summer League champion.

The Warriors look determined to take the throne, sending four members of their 2013 playoff team to the desert for Summer League action.

Golden State announced Monday that guard Nemanja Nedovic, 30th overall pick in the draft, will join Kent Bazemore, Draymond Green, Scott Machado, and Dwayne Jones in headlining the team’s Summer League squad in Las Vegas. Assistant coach Darren Erman will helm the squad.

Green is the only player on the summer roster with a guaranteed 2013-2014 contract. This leaves plenty of room for the other 17 members of the Warriors Summer League team to leave a lasting impression.

The NBA Summer League isn’t just a chance for players to have breakout moments and shake out the NBA nerves, but also for scouts to look at future potential, which is exactly what landed Bazemore a spot on the Warriors roster last season.

This time around, Bazemore will need to showcase his defensive improvement in order to keep his position as the best bench celebrator in the NBA.

This year’s NBA Summer League will feature 22 teams competing in three preliminary-round games from July 12 to 16 before being seeded in a tournament capped by a championship game on July 22.

Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games, with the two teams that reach the championship playing as many as eight. Last year the Warriors squad posted a perfect 5-0 record in Las Vegas.

Golden State’s three pre-scheduled Summer League games are against the Washington Wizards on Saturday, July 13, the Sacramento Kings on Monday, July 15, and the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, July 16.

NBA TV will televise live a full slate of NBA Summer League games including the Warriors first game against Washington, July 13 at 1:00 p.m.
