AT&T PARK — If getting no-hit by Homer Bailey was the nadir of the Giants’ season, it can’t be as bad as getting beaten into submission by the rival Dodgers — at home.
Juan Uribe, once a fan favorite in Orange and Black, tied his career high with seven RBIs and was a single shy of the cycle. The Dodgers batted around in the third inning as they embarrassed the Giants 10-2 on a depressing Orange Friday.
Manager Bruce Bochy says he has not reached his breaking point and remains optimistic:

“These hitters, they’re going through their struggles and you hate to see it for them because we know how good they are but unfortunately in this game you get humbled but you stronger when you go through a time like this and it’s going to take a well-pitched game or us having a big inning or something to get them back to where they are. This is what you have to deal with in this game.”
Dodgers rookie left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched 6-2/3 innings giving up only two runs on four hits, walking three and striking out three for the win. At one point he retired 11 in a row.
An extra day of rest for Matt Cain because of a rain-out in Cincinnati on July 4th only saved up the fireworks put on display by the boys in blue.
Uribe had the big hit in a six-run third inning, a bases clearing triple sending Cain to the showers. Uribe also knocked a two-run double in the second and blasted an impressive two-run shot to deep left-center in the seventh inning.
Although he started out with a sharp, seven-pitch first inning, Cain didn’t have it. He labored for a season low 2-1/3 innings giving up six hits and eight earned runs issuing four walks. Cain has dropped two of his last three decisions:

“I got ahead of guys, didn’t finish them off and ended up making bad pitches for those guys to get hits. And when I got behind guys I made bad pitches at those times too.”
As brutal a year it’s been for the Giants, thankfully they play in the weakest division. Despite the loss, they still have one of the best home records in the Majors.
Bochy says he empathizes with his players who are tired of all the losing:
“It’s a tough time right now but you have to look at how much time is left, how much baseball is left and stay behind these guys and that’s what we’re doing.”
But the team is simply pathetic, lacking any sense of urgency or purpose since taking two of three from the Padres on June 19.
Hunter Pence plated Andres Torres on a fielder’s choice grounder in the first inning. The other run scored in the seventh. Brandon Belt with a double off the left-field wall. Belt came home on an RBI single by Tony Abreu.
The Giants coming off an 1-8 road trip, have lost four straight and dropped ten of their last 11 games overall. They occupy the cellar in the National League West and are 5-1/2 games behind the first place Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Giants have only five runs in the month of July. … The Padres are .01 percentage point ahead of the Giants in the standings but in a virtual tie for last place in the division. … Cain is the first Giants pitcher to give up seven runs or more in four games in a season since Jonathan Sanchez in 2008. … According to statistician David Feldman, Uribe is the first player in AT&T Park history to have seven RBI in a game. … Rookie sensation Yasiel Puig extended his hitting streak to nine games.
