After serving up hot food and drinks to rock stars at Napa’s BottleRock Festival, the event’s backstage caterer has been forced to host a fundraiser to avoid bankruptcy because they got stiffed on a $190,000 bill.
The Up and Under Pub is hosting a cash mob this Friday to avoid going out of business after supplying 8,500 meals at the three-day music festival — for which it has yet to be paid.
BottleRock should have been a huge success for all involved. The event drew huge crowds, employed hundreds and offered rock stars another venue to perform in front of their fans.
The downside came when the people who made the event happen didn’t get paid for their efforts.
Up and Under Pub owner Nathan Trivers was owed a wad of cash for his role as the main backstage caterer for the festival. Instead, he now faces with the prospect of going out of business.
The Point Richmond bar has created a Facebook page, garnering 100,000 views, to raise awareness of their situation and invite hordes of customers to come out Friday night and drop cash in their bar in exchange for beer and wine. The owners are hoping an infusion of money will help stave off bankruptcy.
The BottleRock Festival has also come under fire for not paying 150 stagehands about $4,000 each.
In a figure-pointing exercise, concert organizer Bob Vogt says he’s missing about $9 million that food and catering organizer Cindy Pawlcyn should have handed over, and that Pawlcyn isn’t his returning phone calls.
The city of Napa — which got its $260,000 for fire and emergency services — is concerned about the situation, but so far hasn’t gotten involved.
