Struggling Giants sag in All-Star voting

Voters only have a couple days left to cast their ballots, but there is still plenty of time for the standings to take a massive shift. You know what that means: There’s still a chance for some of your favorite Giants to make the roster.

Both the Panda and the reigning NL MVP slipped to second place in the voting at their respective positions just a few days ago, causing a call for Orange & Black bleeders to hurry to their laptops and cast their 25 votes for both players.

But fear not, Giants fans, their is plenty of room for Sandoval and Posey to take the lead and get their tickets punched to Citi Field in July.

For starters, neither player is trailing their opponents by a margin so great that they don’t have the opportunity to move back into those fan favorite positions before the polls close on July 4.

Sandoval is again going head-to-head in the voting with Mets third baseman David Wright, with whom he has dueled for All-Star bragging rights the last few seasons. As of Monday, Wright led Sandoval in the voting by 128,831 votes; a cool number when you consider that Pablo was just reactivated from the disabled list on Monday night.

The catchers’ race is even closer. Posey, who caught teammate Matt Cain in the 2012 All-Star Game, fell behind in votes Monday for the first time to St. Louis Cardinals’ catcher Yadier Molina. With just 90,456 votes between them, there’s still plenty of room for Posey to make a last-minute jump.

Fans have until 8:59 p.m. next Thursday to cast their votes for the 2013 All-Star Game. The rosters for both American and National League teams are scheduled to be unveiled at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 6.
