A 19-year-old Richmond man who tried to rob an undercover federal agent he tried to sell an illegal grenade launcher is facing years behind bars after being convicted of robbery and other charges.
Federal prosecutors said Monday that Khusar Mobley has been found guilty of assault on a federal officer, robbery, and brandishing a firearm during the robbery attempt of the undercover Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms agent in March.
Authorities say Mobley and two other men — 23-year-old Otis Mobley and 19-year-old D’marce Hutcherson — met the agent in a Chevy’s restaurant parking lot in Richmond after agreeing to sell the grenade launcher for $1,000.
Instead of turning the grenade launcher over, the three men pulled guns and demanded the agent turn over his money.
Backup agents staking out the transaction opened fire, shooting and wounding Hutcherson. He recovered from his injuries after being taken to a hospital.
Otis Mobley and Hutcherson have since been convicted for their role in the botched robbery attempt and each have been sentenced to more than nine years in prison.
Khusar Mobley is due to be sentenced in October. Prosecutors say he faces up to 20 years in prison.
