AT&T PARK — The Marlins have the worst record in baseball. But they’re still a Major League team and they didn’t play like a last-place club.
Rookie Tom Koehler stifled the Giants for his first career win — giving up only a run on three hits over seven innings — and eighth-inning pinch-hitter Marcell Ozuna provided all Miami’s offense as the Marlins edged the Giants 2-1.
With Thursday’s defeat, the Giants have now lost eight straight home games to the Marlins.
In his first appearance against San Francisco, Koehler did not allow a hit until Gregor Blanco’s one-out single to right in the sixth inning.
As well as Koehler pitched, the Giants are missing Pablo Sandoval and Angel Pagan.
They could be missing Pagan for even longer after was carted off the field in Stockton during his rehab stint:

“I’ll be honest I don’t think we were aggressive enough. We were behind the ball a lot. I think he has good stuff but at the same time it seemed like we were late quite a bit and if I had my preference I want the guys to be aggressive.”
Chad Gaudin was on his way to another solid outing when a line drive off the bat of Justin Ruggiano hit Gaudin in the fifth inning. Gaudin left the game with a contusion in his right forearm.

“Disappointing but more frustrating but you can only control the controllables. It’s something I can’t control. Just deal with it and get ready for the next start. I’m sure it’s going to be sore but it’s all basically muscle and tissue. Just get it worked out, take care of it and I should be back out there.”
Sandy Rosario in emergency relief pitched 2-2/3 innings giving up one run, one walk, striking out three.
Brandon Belt isn’t Will Clark but this season he’s come up with some clutch hits.
Belt’s two out double in the bottom of the seventh led to an RBI triple by Joaquin Arias.
The Marlins only had two hits until the eighth inning. Ruggiano led off the inning with a walk. After a pitching change for Jeremy Affeldt, the veteran lefty plunked Derek Dietrich putting runners on first and second.
After a sacrifice advanced both runners into scoring position, Ozuna in his first career pinch-hit appearance, delivered with a single to right scoring both runs.

“If I don’t hit the first guy, maybe we’re not in that situation. But the pitch I got beat on was a pitch I wanted and it still fell in so its the rut I’m in right now it’s frustrating. I’m the guy that seems to be not doing what I’m supposed to be doing.”
Marlins closer Steve Cishek pitched the ninth for his 11th save. Buster Posey singled to extend his hitting streak to nine games but Belt could not deliver another two out hit, he struck out to end the game.
Barry Zito learned his father Joseph had passed away on Wednesday at the age of 84. Zito released the following statement:
“The loss of my father, Joseph Zito, has presented me with a difficulty I could not predict. Through his unprecedented dedication as a father, he instilled in me the faculties which have enabled me to handle all of life’s challenges in a positive way. He will forever be in my heart. God bless my father, and I know that one day I will be reunited with he and my mother Roberta.”
Zito’s mother passed in 2008 at the age of 65. Right now, Zito plans to maintain his normal game routine according to Bochy and is scheduled to pitch Saturday’s matinee.
Arias extended his hitting streak to a career high 11 games. … Rosario’s 2-2/3 innings pitched are a career high. He also had his first plate appearance in the sixth inning.
