The Warriors have tweaked the plan for their proposed waterfront arena to improve the view from outside — and inside — the 18,000 multi-use stadium.
To address neighbors’ concerns, the revised proposal takes a little off the top of their proposed arena at Piers 30 and 32 and adjacent structures, lowering the height of the arena by 10 feet and the adjoining residential and hotel towers by about 50 feet, reports The Ex.
But the most dramatic revision is a chunk taken out of the side of the arena to add a stories-high window providing a glorious peek of the Bay Bridge for fans inside the arena — and a glimpse of the action inside for passers-by.
The Chron reports 750 seats have been sacrificed to provide fans with a signature view of the Bay Bridge.
The new plan also reduces on-site retail space and adds more maritime uses, like a new fireboat station, a cruise ship berth and a water taxi landing.
Also relocating under the revised proposal is beloved burger stand Red’s Java House. Red’s would be moved in order to accommodate a pedestrian corridor along the arena’s north edge.
The Warriors hope the revised plan will help the project clear regulatory and planning hurdles in order to open in time for the 2017-18 NBA regular season.
Arena opponent Rudy Nothenberg told the Chron that adjustments to the design simply won’t address concerns:
“The design has never been an issue. It’s the location and use … that are wrong.”
