Beer delivery strike hits Bay Area taps

SFBay hopes today hasn’t been one of those brutal Tuesdays that left you grasping for your favorite beer as soon as the five o’clock whistle blew.

Because if your favorite beer is distributed by DBI Beverage — like Sierra Nevada and Anchor Steam, or even Miller and Coors — there’s a chance it might not be there waiting for you.

Union beer delivery drivers walked off the job this morning after contract negotiations fell apart last night. Until our unsung national heroes return to work, you may find taps at your local bar running dry of your favorite brew.

There’s no telling how long the strike might last, though the owner of Elixir on 16th and Guerrero, H. Joseph Ehrmann, told SFGate’s Paolo Lucchesi strikes like this tend not to drag on for very long.

Meanwhile, Ehrmann told SFGate at least half of his taps are supplied by other distributors, so there should be something standing by to wet your whistle:

“At the end of the day, when anything like this happens, if you have a big enough beer selection, people just drink something else … If their brand isn’t available, they’ll be bummed but they won’t leave the bar.”
