Flood of Peninsula cities ban plastic bags

San Francisco is a trendsetter yet again. This time, it’s because of The City’s plastic bag ban.

Three cities in the Peninsula are breaking up with plastic bags, just in time for Earth Day.

Redwood City voted unanimously to ban plastic bags Monday, according to Save The Bay:

Palo Alto also joined the party, with their city council voting 5-0 Monday night to ban plastic bags, according to Palo Alto Online.

The bag bans in Redwood City and Palo Alto go into effect next month. A ban in San Carlos is expected to go into effect July 1, according to San Carlos Patch.

Samantha Meyer from Clean Water Action spoke to Palo Alto Online about her support of the ban at the city council meeting:

“We need to move away from the single-use lifestyle where people use things once and throw them away.”
