SANTA CLARA — You won’t see a pass from Colin Kaepernick to Michael Crabtree but you can almost envision it, now that the 49ers new stadium has reached 35 percent completion.
Wednesday morning, the 49ers invited the media to see the construction site and SFBay was there to see the stadium in all of its rebar and concrete glory. Also on hand were a host of dignitaries including San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. They flanked Santa Clara Mayor Jamie Matthews who is ecstatic about the project and what it means for the growth of Silicon Valley.

“What’s wonderful about this stadium, is it reflects the values of Silicon Valley. It’s going to have all the technology that helps define us and drive the world’s economy. This is a great iconic building to help define the region as a whole. We are in the middle of Silicon Valley. I think it’ll help us when we move forward on other bids for other large events whether it be the Olympics, or you name it in the future so I hope we’re laying the groundwork here for not a great one-time event, but a great ongoing event.”

In addition to the tour, dignitaries were able to shed light on the 49ers bid to host Super Bowl L or LI — 50 or 51– headed by Daniel Lurie, the bid-committee chair.

49ers CEO Jed York concluded the event by detailing the long-term benefits of the stadium and their desire to bring America’s biggest sporting event back to the Bay Area for the first time since 1985.
