Oakland car chase lands five teens in hospital

Five teens were hospitalized early Sunday morning as they attempted to flee from CHP officers, but crashed into a fence instead.

The chase began in Oakland at around 1 a.m. after officers tried to pull over the car under suspicion that the driver was drunk.

The car chase, led by an 18-year-old and four minors, met its end at West Grand Ave and Campbell St, where the driver rammed the late-80s Toyota Camry into a fence — narrowly missing a large pole.

All five teens were taken to nearby hospitals, where they were treated for injuries that ranged from minor to serious.

This is the second time in a month that teens have tried to unsuccessfully outrun CHP officers. Thankfully the occupants in both incidents met a more fortunate end than the 19-year-old in this story from January.

Sunday’s crash is still under investigation.
