Know This Love: You are what you eat

Ever heard the phrase, “you are what you eat?”

Jokes aside, this statement is absolutely true. The food that you consume literally becomes you as your body discards old cells and replaces them with new ones.

Nicholas Wade writes in a piece for the New York Times:

“Whatever your age, your body is many years younger. In fact, even if you’re middle aged, most of you may be just 10 years old or less.

This heartening truth, which arises from the fact that most of the body’s tissues are under constant renewal, has been underlined by a novel method of estimating the age of human cells. Its inventor, Jonas Frisen, believes the average age of all the cells in an adult’s body may turn out to be as young as 7 to 10 years.”

And that’s the conservative side of the thinking on what’s possible. In a quantum sense, it could be argued that you’re completely new in every instant.

Actually, according to some quantum thinkers, whatever has been true in the past means no more in this moment than it does as a tendency for that expression to continue.

In other words, you get into a habit of noticing the same thing, so reality keeps obliging you by showing you the same old same old.

So consider the power contained in these words by my dear friend Ryan B. Bloom:

“Every moment you are reborn.”

Now, back to food. I’m not a nutritionist, and I don’t have a fancy-sounding degree from Harvard. But I spent seven years learning about health when my health tanked and I had to figure out how to heal myself.

(Funny how that works, isn’t it? We appreciate our health only after it’s gone. More on that another time.)

But you know, it doesn’t have to take a person seven years of chronic illness and frustration to figure it out. It can be a lot simpler than that.

Eat food that promotes health and well-being. Food that is alive with vital nutrients and chlorophyl and energy from the sun.

Your body will reflect the change by having more energy, making your skin look younger, eliminating aches and pains, getting rid of excess fat and toxins, smoothing out the digestive process, helping to balance your mood, and so on.

The fact is, whether you buy into the quantum theory or just the more commonplace biological research, your body regenerates itself. That means even if you’re 70 and full of cancerous cells, you can still make a huge difference for yourself.

In fact, it’s people who are really sick who stand to see the most benefit!

Ironically, most people are unwilling to love themselves enough to make the changes that are necessary. And that’s their choice.

But make no mistake, it really is a lack of self-love, because once you become aware of something, you can no longer claim to be a victim of habit (or of anything else, for that matter). At that point, a habit becomes a choice.

We get to choose what we experience, so I choose living food and a natural state of wellbeing. What are you going to choose today?
