Robber targets grocery store banks

In a sort of a modern twist on the usual bank robbery, a man has been targeting banks inside of Safeways in Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park.

He must have grown tired waiting in the typically long lines at grocery store banks.

The suspect robbed U.S. Bank branches in a Safeway store on Commerce Boulevard in Rohnert Park around 10:27 a.m. Thursday. The early-riser struck again around 11:15 a.m. at a U.S. Bank in a store on Mendocino Avenue in Santa Rosa.

Each time, he slipped a teller a demand notice but did not brandish a weapon.

The suspect has been described as a stocky Latino man with a goatee, usually sporting a black baseball cap and gray hoodie. He is 25 to 28 years old, 5 feet 4 to 5 feet 6, between 200 and 250 pounds, with bleached hair.

Police say he matches the description of a man who robbed a Chase Bank inside a Raley’s store on Fulton Road Feb. 1.

No injuries have been reported, though Rohnert Park Police say there was an implied threat during the most recent robbery in Santa Rosa.

The amount of cash the accused robber has lifted remains unknown.
