Talk about multitasking.
In addition to managing the quality and distribution of our city’s public resources, SF Public Utilities Commission employees have been accused of watching porn and gambling on their work computers.
We’re not sure if PUC employees have far less responsibility and way more time on their hands than was previously believed, but they definitely know how to make their own entertainment in dull government work.
An unspecified number of employees — in unspecified departments — are accused of shamelessly abusing our tax dollars.
The SFPUC and City Attorney’s office are currently wrapping up an investigation into the misconduct, which is presumably horribly embarrassing for all involved.
Folks, if you are going to risk your job and reputation by goofing off on company time and computers, you may want to double-check with your colleagues that they will keep their lips sealed. It was a fellow employee who sounded the alarm on the tomfoolery, no doubt ostracizing themselves from the high-brow group of porn and gambling lovers.
It’s not immediately known to what extent punishment for the digital naughtiness will be carried out, but agency spokesman Tyrone Jue told the Ex that termination is on option.
If the employees do keep their jobs, we think the subsequent nomination of this group as “you know, the pervs who got caught watching porn and gambling?” will be a pretty good punishment in itself.
Correction: An earlier version of this story listed two departments reported by the San Francisco Examiner as under investigation. Suzanne Gautier of San Francisco Water, Power, and Sewer wrote SFBay to clarify that the work areas of the employees under investigation are not being officially disclosed.
