Redis­covered art finally gets its showcase

For many artists, art is about creation, not consumption.

For the rest of us, though, the art we never see is the art that never opens our eyes, changes our mind, or connects with us in ways that alter our lives or how we see the world.

800 paintings by San Francisco-based artists William Campbell and Frank Brown were left behind when Brown died in 2000. Most never seen by the public, the works capture life in San Francisco, Mexico, North Africa, and other destinations captured on canvas by the couple in their travels.

A curated selection of the artists’ work will be displayed and offered for sale in March at Celebrate HeART, a fine art sale and fundraiser for the Little Sisters of the Poor and the Residents of St. Anne’s Home on Lake Street in The City.

Photographs and artwork from other Bay Area artists will also be available.

San Francisco Art Patron Diane B. Wilsey will serve as honorary chair for the event, to be held St. Anne’s Home on Thursday, March 14.
