Another surfer rescued near Cliff House

The sun might be out and the beaches might be beckoning, but be forewarned: The waves are no joke.

A stranded surfer was rescued from the rocks outside the Cliff House on Ocean Beach Monday afternoon. This is the second time in a matter of days that surfers have needed to be rescued from that location.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Emily Wilhite confirms the surfer was reported stranded offshore from the Cliff House around 11:37 am. Upon arrival, SF Fire Surf Rescue swimmers jumped into the water and aided the stranded surfer into to a Police Department boat.

In the first incident last Friday, a group of surfers were trapped near Seal Rock in the same location. The Coast Guard had to rely on incoming waves to help get them back to land safely.

Hmm, looks like forecasters that were down on the Mavericks Invitational because storms were supposedly sending strong waves up to Alaska and not the California coast should reevaluate their predictions.

Those heading out to the beaches this week are encouraged to check out weather and surf advisories for Ocean Beach — and all local beaches, for that matter — before heading out.
