Giants toss one-year deals at Posey, Pence

Let me tell you, Giants Nation: If my mom had her way, I’d be engaged to Hunter Pence right now. I kid you not, she’s that big of a Crazy Eyes fan.

Well, she might have another season to marry me off, as the Giants agreed to new contracts with their 2012 Playoff Preacher and the reigning league MVP.

Multiple sources confirmed Friday morning that the San Francisco Giants avoided arbitration and agreed to one-year deals with both Pence and catcher Buster Posey.

It will be a significant pay raise for Pence, who contributed 13 hits, 7 runs and 1 homerun during the Giants 2012 post-season run. While Rotoworld speculates his offensive stats will decrease in his “first full season in a pitcher friendly park,” Pence will remain a defensive powerhouse — and a team motivator.

Posey’s $8 million deal — plus possible awards bonuses — takes him out of the MLB bargain basement. The MVP had made just $615,000 in 2012.

Both Pence and Posey had until Tuesday of this week to file for salary arbitration.

Other Giants signed to one-year deals this week include outfielder Gregor Blanco and relief pitcher Jose Mijares.
