Bogut bangs with the bigs in Warriors practice

OAKLAND — The Warriors are looking at tough times in the next few days, but there is a glimmer of hope ahead.

Injured center Andrew Bogut was seen at practice working on basketball moves with the other bigs Wednesday, his hair dripping with sweat, his shirt soaked.

Warriors Head Coach Mark Jackson downplayed his big man’s sweatiness to SFBay after practice, standing firm that Bogut is still recovering:

“Still the same thing, no timeline as far as Bogut is concerned. He’s continuing rehab, continuing working hard, we’ll see when he suits up but no timeline at all.”

A physically-engaged Bogut sweating it out at practice is better than no Bogut at all. The 7-foot center’s eventual return is good news for the recently-struggling Warriors, who have lost 4 of their last 5 games.

Stephen Curry, who injured his ankle during shootaround before Wednesday’s disappointing loss to the Miami Heat, did not participate in practice but looked to be in good spirits. Curry managed to squeeze off a few free throws as the session was winding down.

Jackson told SFBay Curry would travel with the team, but his return is uncertain:

“He’s still getting treatment, still day-to-day. He’ll travel, but not sure when he’ll play.”

Guard Jarrett Jack, who started in place of Curry Wednesday and fumbled away five turnovers himself, talked about his turnover problems after practice Thursday:

“I’ve got to do a better job of taking care of the basketball. It tends to start with the point guard, if I’m loose with the ball it’s kind of like a domino effect  If I want us to have a legitimate shot at winning, especially on the road I’ve got to do a better job of taking care of the ball myself and I think everybody else will follow suit.”

With Curry iffy and back-to-back tough road matchups ahead against San Antonio and New Orleans, the immediate future looks bleak for Golden State.

Friday night they’ll face the San Antonio Spurs, a team the Warriors haven’t beat since 2008. Then, Saturday they head to New Orleans for a rumble with the Hornets, who don’t have the most impressive record this season, but have won 6 of the last 7.

Monday the Warriors return home to take on the divisional rival Los Angeles Clippers at Oracle Arena.
