Sure, it’s not the first time we’ve seen whales or dolphins show up at Ocean Beach. But when San Francisco urban wildlife photographer David Cruz reached out to SFBay with these pictures of frolicking cetaceans, we couldn’t help but notice: These guys are having fun.
A couple of the dolphins catch some serious air over some nice Ocean Beach breaks. Another shot shows two dolphins — one large and one smaller, possibly a family — engulfed in a cresting wave crashing towards the shore.
Whether it’s in Golden Gate Park, the Zoo or along Ocean Beach, Cruz’s work always reminds of us of the treasured wild splendor that manages to survive in our urban landscape. His Nature’s Lantern Flickr feed is full of coyotes, skunks, otters, birds and other original occupants of “our” Bay Area.
