Tomatoes plus mud equal mayhem

Mix over-ripe tomatoes, mud and lots of beer. Wait two hours, hose off whatever is left and shovel it into a BART train or soberly-driven car.

Hundreds of participants blasted each other with tomatoes and mud during Saturday’s NorCal Tomato Battle 2012 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton.

The substance being slung transformed from tomatoes to mud over the two-hour aerial affair. By the end, the corral looked more like a mosh pit at Glastonbury than a tomato-littered battlefield.
