Giants’ final word on Melky Cabrera: No

Okay okay, I know I said that Melky Cabrera disqualifying himself from the race for this year’s batting title would be the last we had to talk about him.

Unfortunately, we have to bring him up again; sorry folks.

The latest on the disgraced outfielder is that he in fact will not be rejoining the team for their post-season run. Manager Bruce Bochy made the announcement Thursday before Barry Zito took the mound in the Giants’ final regular-season home game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

While CSN BayArea’s Andrew Baggarly reported Wednesday that a decision to permanently scratch Cabrera from the lineup had already been made, the Giants’ website reported a final call would not be made or announced until prior to the team’s final home game.

Had Cabrera been invited back to the team, he would not have been eligible to play until after the NL Divisional Series. He would’ve been able to work out at the instructional league down in Arizona prior to the end of his suspension.

The decision on whether or not to bring Cabrera back is just one of many decisions before the regular season ends next week down in Los Angeles. Bochy still has to trim the 40-man roster down to 25, and is still playing around with the order of the starting pitcher rotation.
