SFPD pops dozens in school zone drug busts

San Francisco police found themselves productively busy these past two weeks, as they executed an extended mission to bust people for trying to buy drugs near school zones in the Bayview, Mission and Tenderloin.

Beginning Aug. 20, and dramatically titled “Operation Safe Schools,” the effort resulted in 25 felony arrests for narcotic sales.

Ten of those arrested received additional charges due to city laws allowing enhanced charges for crimes committed within 1,000 feet of a school, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Officers went about their plan by setting up “buy busts,” where police lure potential drug dealers by posing as fake clients.

Police conducted a total of seven buy busts, in which all 25 arrests were made for narcotic sales to a police officer.
