Warriors, in no Rush, beef up with Landry

Warriors fans can relax and take a deep breath. I know you were all worried, but it appears that Brandon Rush will wear a Warriors jersey next season.

For a few weeks, everyone wondered if it would happen, but after receiving no offers from other teams, the restricted free agent is coming back to Oakland.

Rush averaged almost 10 points and four rebounds per game in 65 games with the Warriors last season. His most valuable asset was his perimeter shooting, hitting 45 percent of his three-point shots, the 6th-highest percentage in the NBA.

CSN Bay Area’s Matt Steinmetz reports that because Rush didn’t receive any offers, “he will simply come to terms on a contract with Golden State.”

In a recent article, Steinmetz answered a fan question about how Rush’s situation will play out. Steinmetz wrote that Rush and the Warriors could agree to a multi-year deal or Rush could accept the qualifying offer of $4.3 million for next season and become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Steinmetz is getting his information from Rush’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, who also happens to represent power forward Carl Landry, who played for the New Orleans Hornets last season.

The Warriors have been looking for frontline depth all offseason, and had been targeting Landry for the last few weeks. The five-year veteran averaged 12.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last season.

The Oakland Tribune’s Marcus Thompson reports that Landry has agreed to a two-year deal with the Warriors.

Thompson also speculates that Dominic McGuire could be the odd man out, although McGuire is also represented by Bartelstein. Both are grinding, dirty-work-style of players, though Landry’s experience and heft have been something missing from the Warriors’ lineup for years.

Warriors fans have a lot to look forward to next season. Stephen Curry and Andrew Bogut should be healthy. Harrison Barnes and Draymond Green bring a much-needed shot of energy to the lineup. And point guard Jarrett Jack and Landry add depth and experience at key positions.
