Sex assault drama over for Sandoval

Hoo-freaking-rah! There will not be a shadow of scandal cast over the Giants clubhouse or its highly-loved third baseman.
That’s because the Santa Cruz sheriff’s department and the district attorney released a statement Monday that there will not be any criminal charges filed against San Fran sports fans’ favorite Panda, Pablo Sandoval.
District Attorney Bob Lee told NBCBayArea that the story from the complainant — a 21-year-old woman that met Sandoval in a bar in Santa Cruz — “shifted too much” and that there wasn’t physical evidence or witnesses “to corroborate her story.”
The complainant filed charges against Sandoval after she alleged he assaulted her at a Santa Cruz motel, and went so far as to submit “forensic evidence” to a local hospital. Sandoval cooperated with the investigation when questioned on July 1, and investigators never asked for any follow-up interviews.
CSN Bay Area insider Andrew Baggarly predicted on June 25 that the case would wrap up quickly.
And in the Kung Fu Panda’s favor, no less.
Hopefully the good news will boost Sandoval’s offensive numbers, as the third baseman went 1-for-4 with a double on Sunday at home against the Houston Astros. The Giants start a six-game road trip today facing their 2010 postseason rivals Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies.
