Warriors coach admits to affair and extortion

It’s that look. The look of complete and utter shame. The look of furrowed eyebrows, sad eyes and sucked-in lips.

It’s the look that male public figures seem to get when admitting to the public that they’ve done something scandalous and unsavory.

That, my friends, is the look that Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson – who, for the record, is also a minister – had on his mug when he admitted Thursday to an affair with a former stripper that led to an extortion scheme.

Jackson – who, also for the record, has been married for the last 22 years – took up with New York stripper Alexis Adams six years ago while he was announcing for the New Jersey Nets. Inside Bay Area reports via The Smoking Gun that Adams confronted Jackson this passed April in Memphis, and demanded money to keep the photos and affair from going public.

. . . Hmmm, didn’t Terrell Owens deal with something similar this week? But TO hasn’t been sporting a wedding band for two decades, nor is he a minister (well, at least not on this planet).

It is reported that Jackson gave Adams $5,000 to keep quiet, but she still contacted Jackson’s wife and demanded even more money.

Jackson has reportedly since helped the FBI track down and arrest Adams and accomplice Marcus Shaw earlier this week. He said in a statement released through the Warriors:

“I recognize the extremely poor judgment that I used both in having an affair six years ago – including the embarrassing communication I exhibited during that time – and in attempting to deal with the extortion scheme at first by myself.”

The Warriors released a statement of their own, saying that Jackson made them aware of the extortion scam back in April, and that they were part of the contact with the FBI, but that:

“Due to the fact that this is an ongoing legal matter, the Warriors will have no further comment at this time.”

Sounds like the only people that didn’t know about this scheme were the prime targets: Jackson’s family.

Let this be a lesson to all other male-public-figure-ministers-who-make-stanky-decisions: Keep up the unsavory behavior, and don’t be surprised to see your picture in the paper with those furrowed eyebrows, sad eyes, and sucked-in lips that signal such shame.
