For at least a week, Muni has been giving the dreaded traffic alert on various signs and stations throughout The City, telling to commuters to expect delays due to Pride weekend.
This year’s SF Pride is expected to draw a crowd of 1 million people in festive garb showing their support for the LGBT community.
To ease getting through this celebratory rush of people, cars and buses, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency has elected to issue permits for more cabs to cruise the streets this weekend, especially during Sunday’s parade.
This will be the second weekend in a row 100 extra cabs will be available to ease the commute. A total of 1,600 cabs will be rolling San Francisco streets this weekend.
Last week during the U.S. Open golf tournament at the Olympic Club near Lake Merced, the SFMTA granted 100 extra permits in response to the event.
Its quick success meant the idea was readily approved once again for Pride.
Cab companies love the idea and say it will allow them to better service customers.
The only problem is if a taxi should break down, there will be a lack in extra cars to replace that vehicle, according to some cab drivers.
And really, anything that can help with a potential traffic nightmare is more than welcome.
