This Week In Orange: World Series nostalgia

Happy Friday, Giants fans!

Are you ready for a little 2010 World Series déjà vu this weekend?

I, most certainly, can’t wait.

During that particular championship post-season, I was unemployed and living off of pre-made sandwiches and free beer from the local bar. And while I have absolutely no desire to relive that loser-y part of my career, I would kill to get another taste of the excitement our Giants brought to The City that October.

The Texas Rangers are coming to The City By The Bay for the first time since we gave them a kick-in-the-caboose in Game 2 of the 2010 World Series. Josh Hamilton and company (33-25) will be looking to make it out of San Francisco (also 33-25) alive, and without getting beat 9-0 like they did during their last visit.

So in celebration of an epically orange World Series, let’s share a couple of hoagies and hefeweizens and take a gander at what we need to do to send the Rangers home without a win:

Keeping our offense up. . . : The Gigantes have won 13 consecutive games at home against the Rangers. To stretch that streak into this weekend, the G-men will have to keep their bats hot.

Angel Pagan is on a 15-game streak with eight multi-hit games and 12 stolen bases. Pagan blasted one of three homers yesterday down in San Diego.  The other two HRs came from Gregor Blanco and Buster Posey, who happens to be the only hitter from the 2010 team in the lineup this weekend.

. . . and the Rangers’ offense quiet: The Rangers have been slacking as of late, losing seven of their last nine games and, as fore-mentioned, have lost 13 straight in SF. Let’s hope that Nelson Cruz starts having flashbacks from Game 5 of the 2010 Series against Brian Wilson and won’t be able to put the bat on the ball.

And while Josh Hamilton and Ian Kinsler might be looking for some offensive redemption for their last trip to San Francisco, our pitching has been rather delightful as of late.

Our pitching is currently IN-CENDIARY: Vogie has a 2.38 ERA. And Barry Zito, who didn’t pitch in the 2010 Series, has 18 career wins versus Texas and just pitched eight-and-a-half innings in his last outing.

And for the record: Both MadBum and Cain Horse — who aren’t pitching this weekend — have been racking up wins.

So I’m super duper mega hardcore crossing my fingers that Timmy has some out-of-body experience on Sunday and finds himself in his 2010 post-season state of intense awesomeness.

Just a couple hours ’til we’re all off for the weekend and rocking that Orange-And-Black. We’ve got a series to  <s>sweep</s> win, 2010 style.
