Don’t kid yourself. You, me, them — we’re all born naked, helpless and ugly. As humans, it’s what we grow into, not how we start out.
At SFBay, we like to think websites are the same way. Well, at least two out of three.
When SFBay launched a little more than six months ago, it’s safe to say not a single soul had ever typed the URL sfbay.ca into their browser.
As of today, hundreds of thousands of you have made SFBay a destination for truly local Bay Area news, sports, culture and more. And we thank you.
SFBay is close to cracking the top 300,000 websites in the world as measured by Alexa.com. And that’s without resorting to SEO bullshit or link-jacking trickery. Not our style. If that doesn’t sound difficult, try it sometime.
As of this instant, SFBay ranks No. 316,170 in the world and No. 44,173 in the United States. And we’re not even warmed up yet.
To celebrate — and yes, we do like to celebrate — SFBay wants you to join us at a Giants game! We’re giving away four pairs of tickets on Facebook for the Tuesday, June 12 Giants vs. Astros game to people who refer friends to “like” us on Facebook.
It’s easy, it’s painless: Tell as many friends as you can to “like” SFBay on Facebook. For each friend that likes us, you’ll get one entry in our contest.
And don’t worry, you new, unreferred fans. You’ll be entered to win a pair of tickets too. Bam. So like us now.
The deadline to enter is next Tuesday at 11:59 p.m. We’ll draw on Wednesday and announce the winner on our Facebook wall.
So thanks again to each and every one who have supported SFBay, one of the few local, home-grown Bay Area media startups. We’ve noticed and appreciated every one of your supportive tweets, messages and handshakes. We couldn’t have done it without you.
And we also want to thank those who haven’t supported SFBay, or who have been outright haters. We couldn’t have done it without you either.
