Maybe this is the goody two-shoes in me talking, but here is a prime reason why you don’t want to outrun the police: You’ll probably get caught, get hurt and look like a dumb ass.
Today’s example is a speeding motorcyclist from Daly City, who allegedly took CHP on a wild goose chase through Marin County to Rohnert Park — only to crash while trying to exit the highway.
The over-confident rider, Jimmy Lee Coe, was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries.
Sgt. David Derczo told the Press Democrat that a Marin County CHP officer had tried to stop Coe after midnight near Novato. Instead of pulling over like a law-abiding citizen, the 51-year-old sped up the highway at up to 85 mph.
A second Sonoma County CHP patrol car joined the pursuit, where speeds reached approximately 100 mph.
When Coe tried to take the Wilfred Avenue exit, he crashed, slid under the guardrail, broke his arm and sustained head injuries.
According to Derczo, the exit was closed for about seven hours for crash investigation.
Charges against Coe will be determined after a CHP investigation and report.
