Letter to Giants fans, home opener edition

Happy home opener Giants fans!!

The thunderstorm has passed over, Buster Posey is sans-shingles, and we are poised for an excellent opening weekend at AT&T Park.

While I won’t be at the ballpark sporting my orange-and-black tutu, I will certainly be posted up in front of the tube watching Matt Cain do some serious work against Andrew McCutchen and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

And you know me: I love a little stat trivia before each big game.

So pull up a stool, grab yourself an apricot ale — it is Orange Friday, after all — and let’s look at some fun facts about our Giants in their home openers:

Texas CAINsaw Massacre: Okay, so Matt Cain didn’t look like himself in his season debut last Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. But fear not, Giants faithful. Cain’s at-home stats are promising. He’s 39-35 with a 3.12 ERA at home. Expect a solid performance from Cain in today’s game.

Hex on McCutchen: No, I’m not saying this because it’s Friday the 13th. The Pirates’ star has his lowest average against the Giants, with 19 strikeouts in 18 games. Let’s watch for Cain retire this kid a couple more times this afternoon.

The Overall Record: The Orange & Black have a home opener record of 33-21 overall, with a 9-3 record at AT&T Park alone. Good odds, if you ask me.

Rackin’ Up Those Runs: Our Gigantes have scored at least four runs in their first six games this season. And for all of you that were present for The Torture of 2010 when we won the World Series scoring even fewer runs per game, four-or-more is downright shocking. And if the defense can keep our opponents from scoring four-or-more runs? Even better.

That 1:35 start is rapidly approaching my friends. Let’s ready ourselves for some super sensational Giants baseball.

Peace, Love and Orange Rally Rags.
