A mischievous young cat who got the ride of her life inside the engine compartment of a van remains unclaimed at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter.
The 8-month-old cat apparently climbed into the engine bay of a van in a McDonalds parking lot in Mill Valley Tuesday night. When the van’s owner awoke in the morning, he drove non-stop from Mill Valley to Santa Cruz.
When the driver stopped for gas in Santa Cruz, he heard a cat’s meow coming from the engine. He opened the hood and found a scared kitty staring at him, wearing a blue studded collar and bell around its neck.
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter scanned the female cat but found no microchip. No owner has come forward after the story appeared in local newspapers and news broadcasts.
The golden-eyed tabby was purring for shelter staff at the Santa Cruz Animal Shelter Thursday. Clearly someone’s pet, the cat will be brought back to Marin County on Sunday by Marin Humane Society workers.
