Police crack down on drugs on Haight

By

Attention drifters lingering on Haight Street: Sit down and take a load off.

For now SFPD’s Park Station will be ignoring the routine sit/lie public nuisance calls they receive everyday.

Why? Well, shockingly enough, Upper Haight apparently has a drug problem.

SFPD has decided to put the pressure on dealers in the area, which means non-emergency calls are going to be politely ignored in the hopes that an absence of uniformed police will lull local dealers into a fall sense of security.

Business owners in the area have mixed feelings on the issue — baked goods sales are expected to drop — but they remain hopeful that the undercover work will improve the current situation.

At this point it is unknown how long the Haight Street operation will be in effect.
