Bruce Bochy is taking an unusual approach to avoid another serious injury to Buster Posey.
The 2011 season ended for the Giants when Buster Posey was run over trying to block home plate against the Marlins in late May.
In comments to USA Today, manager Bruce Bochy made it clear he wants to avoid a repeat of that horrific injury:
“I’ve already talked to Buster about this. There are ways to make the tag without putting yourself in jeopardy. I don’t want him to block the plate right now.”
It’s easy for Bochy to say that now, but in the throngs of battle, will Posey remember to avoid a collision or will his natural instinct kick in when he sees an opponent trying to score a run against his team?
My money is on Posey protecting the plate, even if he has to take another hard hit.
