Burning Man tickets are on fire

If you want to buy Burning Man tickets and have a couple hundred bucks burning a hole in your pocket, tickets are still available.

Burning Man organizers held two ticket lotteries this year for the 26th annual festival, which runs from August 27 to September 3 in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. Demand for the tickets has far exceeded the supply and the last chance for people to buy tickets is in the open ticket sales next month.

On March 28, 10,000 full-price tickets of $390 will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The two previous ticket lotteries allowed participants to buy tickets at lower prices but you had to be registered in order to enter the lottery.

Marian Goodell, communications director for Black Rock City LLC, which hosts the festival noted the increased demand and difficulties people were having in getting their hands on the coveted tickets. In order to combat the inevitable scalping of tickets in the following months, Goodell detailed the company’s new ticketing program:

“To address it, we’ve worked with InTicketing to create a Secure Ticket Exchange Program (STEP) that allows people to buy and sell tickets from a central source, without having to be concerned about scalping or counterfeit tickets.”

The STEP system will be available on the Burning Man website later this month and is designed to give Burners with extra tickets a way to sell their tickets back so others can buy them at face value without having to worry about paying big bucks for a counterfeit ticket.

In addition to the lotteries and STEP system, the festival is also selling tickets to low income people who show they cannot afford the full-price ticket. Beginning February 19, 4,000 tickets will become available at a cost of $160 each.

Also, most importantly, don’t show up to the Playa without tickets because you won’t be able to buy tickets at the gate.
