In his first press conference as Raiders general manager, Reggie McKenzie was entirely non-committal when discussing future coaches.
Would he be interviewing Winston Moss for the newly-opened head coaching position? McKenzie remained mum.
Yet, was anyone surprised to hear the McKenzie had a super secret interview with Moss anyways?
No, I wasn’t surprised either.
SFGate’s Vittorio Tafur confirmed today that McKenzie did indeed interview Green Bay’s assistant head coach back on January 14.
Moss is one of a couple members of the Green Bay family that McKenzie has his eye on to possibly take over as Oakland’s head coach. Packers defensive coordinator Don Capers is another candidate. And current Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg—formerly the Packers quarterback coach—met with McKenzie last Friday.
FF Fun Fact: Mornhinweg not only worked with McKenzie in Green Bay, but he also coached Superbowl-winning QB Brett Favre. Could that make him the most desirable candidate?
Also being interviewed in McKenzie’s super-secret head coach auditions: Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice, Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr., and former Dolphins interim head coach Todd Bowles.
And although the Raiders are still attempting to maintain super secret-ness, McKenzie supposedly wants to have a new head coach selected by the end of the week.
