Braylon Edwards finally makes an impact

Braylon Edwards hasn’t contributed much (read: anything) to the success of the 11-3 49ers this season.

But he is contributing to the current and future success of 79 students from the Cleveland, Ohio area. Edwards spent the first four and a half seasons of his career with the Cleveland Browns, and while he was there, he invested his money into junior high students.

This wasn’t some small gesture Edwards did for the good publicity it might bring him.

Edwards offered up to 100 junior high students a scholarship worth $10,000 if they finished high school with a Grade Point Average above 2.5 and if they volunteered 15 hours of their time for community service.

Over 1,000 students applied for the scholarship. Of the 100 selected, 79 met Edwards’ stipulations. And Edwards stuck to his word, committing $790,000 of his money to those students.

Edwards hasn’t lived up to the hype on the field, but with this gesture, he has exceeded my expectations off the field. Kudos to Edwards for actually doing something productive this year.
