Occupy Oakland demonstrators plan to establish a new encampment Saturday, after an early Monday morning raid evicted them from Frank Ogawa Plaza.
Supporters will rally and march from Broadway and 14th Street to Telegraph Avenue and 19th Street, across the street from the Fox Theater and the Oakland School for the Arts, the Oakland Tribune reported.
The group’s new encampment would be built in an empty lot the city of Oakland had planned to partially convert into an art garden. The art school’s director, Donn Harris, said Thursday that he was coordinating with city and property officials about the new encampment.
However, a statement released by Mayor Jean Quan’s office Thursday evening said Oakland police had a strategy to prevent the establishment of any new encampments.
