A’s bring back Curt Young

A’s manager Bob Melvin is piecing together his coaching staff. His latest move was to bring former A’s pitching coach Curt Young back into the mix.

Jane Lee of MLB.com is reporting that the A’s made the move official Friday morning.

Young served as the A’s pitching coach from 2004 to 2010, before taking the Boston Red Sox pitching coach position prior to the 2011 season.

Curt Young last served as the A's pitching coach in 2010, a staff led by Brett Anderson.

Under Young, the A’s pitching staff routinely finished near the top on Team ERA in the American League. In Young’s last season, 2010, the A’s pitching staff compiled a 3.56 team ERA, the best in the AL. A’s recorded a league-high 17 shutouts that season.

Earlier in the week, Melvin hired Chip Hale as his bench coach. Hale spent the last two seasons as the New York Mets third base coach.
