Cal star shining in World Series

Allen Craig wouldn’t mind seeing Alexi Ogando on the mound a few more times during the World Series.

Craig, who played collegiately at Cal from 2003 to 2005, has driven in go-ahead runs with pinch-hits in Games 1 and 2 of the World Series. Both hits have come off the usually-reliable Rangers reliever Alexi Ogando. Craig’s hit was the difference in the first game as the Cardinals won Game 1 3-2, but their bullpen couldn’t hold the 1-0 lead in the 9th inning of Game 2, losing the game 2-1.

Allen Craig was an honorable mention All-Pac 10 in his junior season.

Drafted in the 8th round of the 2006 MLB Amateur Draft by the Cardinals, Craig is now the 1st bat off the bench for manager Tony La Russa. During the regular season, Craig played in 75 games, hitting .315 with 11 home runs and 40 RBI.

In his three seasons at Cal, Craig hit .292 in 141 games and played a number of positions including shortstop and left field.
