Manhunt continues for Cupertino workplace gunman

Armed with a rifle and handgun, Shareef Allman killed two people and wounded six at a Cupertino quarry early this morning, according to officials.

Allman then shot a woman he tried to carjack a couple of miles away at Homestead and Tantau, authorities said, and is still at large and considered both armed and dangerous.

The Merc reports armed police are on street corners in the neighborhood of the manhunt, bordered roughly by Homestead, Inverness, Quail and Nightingale. Residents are being advised to stay inside and lock their doors.

Allman, 47, has apparently been an advocate of non-violence and had previously written “Amazing Grace,” a book advocating empowerment among victims of domestic violence. From the Merc:

The motive is uncertain, but those who know suspect Shareef Allman, 47, couldn’t be more shocked. Along with his day job at the quarry, Allman produced a community TV show called “Real 2 Real” for CreaTV in San Jose and was “spreading the word on non-violence,” said Suzanne St. John-Crane, CreaTV’s executive director. He was a mediator. He’s just a person that would try to resolve conflict. I just can’t believe it.”

UPDATE 1: A third victim of the shooter has now died.

UPDATE 2: Three Mountain view schools have been closed because police believe the suspect “has ties to an address located nearby” the schools.
