Hit and run kills man in wheelchair

Police are asking the driver of a two-door Lexus who fled after killing a wheelchair-bound man in Richmond to come forward.

52-year-old David Cox died after being taken to the hospital after being thrown from his wheelchair in the collision near 34th and Esmond. Via the CoCoTimes, Richmond police Sgt. Joey Schlemmer said the tinted Lexus — probably an SC300, SC400, or SC430, Lexus’ only two-door U.S. models — left the scene going south on 34th.

Google Street View shows a relatively quiet, residential corner. Traffic has stop signs on 34th Street, but not for cross traffic at Esmond. It’s unclear exactly where the 6 p.m. collision occured, although Schlemmer said a preliminary investigation pointed to a tragic accident.
